When
a person accepts Jesus
Christ as his Lord and
Saviour, he undergoes a
spiritual change of
enormous significance.
He is transformed into a
child of God; having
been born of God, he is
born again. The
spiritual rebirth ought
to result in his
becoming a man newly
"Created in Christ Jesus
unto good works". The
statement in II
Corinthians 5:17, "if
any man be in Christ, he
is a new creature",
points out the
responsibility of every
believer to study the
Word of God and obey it
correctly and thus prove
that his acceptance of
Christ as his Lord and
Saviour is real and
sincere. When he submits
himself to the Spirit of
God and acts and behaves
bearing in mind this
responsibility, he
undergoes a continuous
and steady
transformation leading
him to the discipleship
of Christ. This growth
toward spiritual
maturity and
discipleship begins in
the life of a believer
when he starts loving
and obeying his Lord. It
is explained that loving
Jesus more than
everybody and everything
else is essential for
spiritual growth into
discipleship. It is
pointed out that a
disciple of Christ has
to put up with many a
suffering in order to be
able to serve his Lord
as a faithful servant.
And it is also pointed
out that it is the
willingness to obey the
Word in spite of
difficulties, hardships
and persecutions that
will earn the believer
great reward in Heaven.
Becoming a true disciple
of Christ, therefore, is
a great blessing that
every believer should
aspire for. |
